Monday late afternoon we went from Death Valley to Yosemite National Park. It was dusk already when we arrived, so the driving through the park was a bit precarious as far as I am concerned! Ok, SCARY...lol Beautiful yes...scary, a little, yes! I was driving by this time, and overtired from driving 10 hours or more...and then it happened:I was driving in the dark..around dangerously curvy roads...up, down, around...with someone pushing at me from the car behind me...when IT HAPPENED---there was a bear in the road! A big old black bear!!
So, I screamed , naturally, and had to slam on the brakes a little,in case he planned on stepping directly in front of me...so, all at once,I realized if I braked too long the guy behind would hit me,the road was dangerously curvy...AND THERE WAS A BEAR IN THE ROAD!!Well, we all survived, and in the end, I was glad I got to see a bear!He lumbered back up the hill unscathed. It was pretty comical now, but at the time, I was shaking head to toe..Anyway...it took us a very long time driving in the dark, o find our lodge. When we finally did, it was SOOOO worth the wait! SOOOO lovely! Here is what the scenery was like as we arrived at the park entrance, and then finally found our lodge:

Evergreen Lodge is nestled right in the park, with lovely old and new cabins available,
a rec hall, a store, a wonderful restaurant...the works.
Our cabin was one large room with a king size bed, a gas fireplace, a little private deck...
SO NICE!! WE slept like logs (ha ha), and in the morning, I found Craig sitting out on the deck chattering with a tuft ear squirrel. What a feeling, to wake up and feel the crisp coolness of the forrest, the smell of pine, the only sounds to be the sweet conversation Craig was having on the deck..I wanted to stay there longer! We threw on our clothes and went up to the lodge for breakfast. and boy did we get breakfast! Heaping portions, and good company! I love to meet people (what a surprise), and I have found that the National Park people (I have affectionately named them) are the BEST!!! Our host was a young man from the Jersey Shore, so we had great conversation about how he arrived at Yosemite, etc.
The only other guests sitting in our part of the restaurant were a lovely couple from Holland, with their 2 year old son. We had such an interesting chat with them..they also had found the Lodge on the internet, and flew all the way here to spend their vacation at Yosemite. Amazing!
After our wonderful breakfast, we headed back to the cabin to pack up. I sat out on the little deck for a while, looking up at the sky and the trees..the smells...the sounds. The stillness that seems loud in your ears, loud and calming, all at the same time...
We had a spectacular day...pristine landscapes...Craig's word was grandeur...
He captured it all with that word..
God is good,e very single day...
Then, it was off to Hayward, California to see our sweethearts.
What a bittersweet drive that was!!
