The lonely stretch...

Craig and I had a lovely visit with my Dad and Betty--we arrived qutie late last night, so we had time only for a chat, but this morning we met them for breakfast. It was so nice to see them.

It was very interesting to see how drastically the landscape changed again today, on our journey. It became very flat, with many many miles between exits. Dusty, with tufts of green bushes popping out all over the flat plains.

As we got into New Mexico a bit, it started getting hilly again.

The storm clouds started to gather around 1 pm , and we drove through rain and lightening all afternoon. It was pretty spectacular!

The ride felt a bit lonely today...I mean, Craig and I were together, and that was very good, but something about the stretch today felt bittersweet. There was too much time for thinking about what happens at the end of this trip---saying goodbye to Chris and Mary. I refuse to dwell on it...this is a brand new life for them, and that is thrilling!

We have not much to report today on our "the road less traveled" tour. The only thing that fell into that category was the "largest cross in the western hemisphere". We chose not to check it out up close..we felt that this particular site could be captured adequately from the highway:

Craig and I going to sleep now...we had a lovely swim and some whirlpool time..we are BEAT. The driving all day part has caught up with us...Thankfully, tomorrow we will be heading to Flagstaff, AZ, where we will spend 2 nights rather than just one. Saturday we will spend the day at the Grand Canyon, which is a dream come true for Craig ( I was there when I was 8). On the way tomorrow, we will be stopping to see a huge crater that is 30,000 years old...we are excited!! Night!!
