Our yard is HAY! Everyone's yard is HAY! The heat is unbelievable...it MIGHT rain today at some point, and I am thrilled! I am wishing and praying for a rainy summer day to nourish our withering flowers and vegetables. This summer is the direct opposite of last summer, as far as the weather. The intensity of this drought is being felt all up and down the coast. Although, they are referring to it as a "dry spell":
Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin today asked residents to voluntarily conserve water due to a persistent dry spell and extremely hot weather, key factors that are beginning to affect water supplies statewide. The DEP is not issuing a formal drought warning at this time but is asking state residents to be aware of the situation and use water more carefully, especially when it comes to lawn watering and other unessential uses. The goal is to moderate water demand through voluntary conservation.
One answer to combatting this heat is the institution of....DINNER ON THE BEACH! We used to do this with the kids and Craig's parents when the daytime was nearly too hot to go to the beach. We would pack everyone up, grab a simple dinner and tote it down to Avon beach. What a great place to unwind! So, tonight is the first official "DINNER ON THE BEACH 2010"! We had an unofficial spontaneous"Dinner on the Beach" Monday night, and it was spectacular!
Summer has been so much fun so far...
Mary arrived for a visit on June 12. We were at the airport picking her up, watching for her down the hallway , when all of a sudden someone was standing behind me, saying "HI MOM!". Craig had secretly bought Christopher a ticket, as a surprise to all of us, but especially me--for my birthday! Katy and I were stunned into sobs! It was incredible!
This led into an amazing week of celebrations. Nick's birthday- a surprise birthday party for me- birthday breakfast with most of the kids...so many wonderful moments!
I was in momma bliss...still am! We were able to have Fred (Mary's dad) down twice while Mary was here, which was lovely.
An excellent way to spend June!
